Travel & tourism

Travel & tourism
Travel & Tourism is one of the world's fastest growing industries. With the right training you can be a part of it.
As relative cost of air travel falls and the availability of leisure time grows, more and more people take to the skies for the pleasure of a holiday abroad. Consequently, the travel industry is now the world's biggest, and experts predict that it will continue to grow. The job opportunities for anyone with recognised qualifications in travel and tourism management are therefore considerable.
Professional qualifications AND a degree - a very marketable combination
People usually enter the tourism industry with either a professional qualification or a degree. At West London College we give you the opportunity to enter the industry with the two combined. We believe that combining the two will give you the best of both, and in the case of Tourism Management we combine the syllabus of the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) with a BA (Hons) degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management (Top-up) from Bournemouth University. As a consequence our students achieve a valuable qualification for each year of study (see entry point selector chart) and will gain CTH membership (MCTH) as well as a degree from the Number One university in the UK for this field.
Important: CTH is approved by the Office of the Qualification & Examinations Regulator (OFQUAL), part of the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA) which regulates qualifications on behalf of the British government.
Virgin Atlantic & Star Alliance
In addition to the valuable professional and academic qualifications on offer, the first year of the programme incorporates industry-standard Virgin Atlantic and Star Alliance qualifications in airline fares and ticketing.
Virgin Atlantic is part of the global Virgin airline network and a leading European carrier with a route network that include destinations in the US, the Caribbean, Far East, India and Africa. Star Alliance is the world's largest airline network, incorporating many of the world's most famous airlines.
Both are highly respected names in the sector and their endorsement of these qualifications is a valuable bonus for Travel & Tourism students at WLC.
The Galileo CRS (Computer Reservation System)
Galileo is one of the world's leading computer software links between ticket sales offices and the airline's central booking system and is used by travel agencies all over the world. Effective real-time 'live' training on the Galileo CRS system is rare, however, because most colleges do not have access to the actual Galileo system. (The best they can offer is computer simulations, which actually behave very differently to the real thing).
This is not the case at West London College. As one of the largest airline fares & ticketing training centres in the UK, WLC has been authorised by Galileo to connect directly to their network and therefore train students on a 'live' system
